Upgrade path

Cash is tight until Desert, and shops are happy to sell you a gun you will trash in twenty minutes. This path is a first-buy order, not a completionist shopping list.

Updated Aug 31, 2026 Patch 1.0.10

The rule that does not change

Extra inventory slot first on every island. You cannot hold quest bait, a trophy, food, and a new gun on a starter bar. After the slot, buy the tool that prints money (rod / lure), then the weapon you will still carry to the next shore. Shop prices are patch-sensitive and omitted on purpose.

Use the buttons to jump. The last island you opened is remembered in localStorage on this device.

First buy: Extra inventory slot

Lighthouse

  1. 1. Extra inventory slot

You cannot sell, eat, and hold quest bait on a full bar.

  2. 2. Crab-Fishing Rod

The starter cast is how you fund everything else.

  3. 3. Hot Dog bait

Pays for itself once Ham has taught you the loop.

  4. 4. Knife, then the upgrade

The Spider Crab is a melee-range problem if you botch the kiting.

  5. 5. Beer Can

Quest item. Feed it to the keeper; do not treat it as a snack.

  6. 6. Radar tablet ($10)

Buy it after the boat keys. The Forest is a green dot, not a guess.

Delay: Cosmetic impulse buys; Stockpiling food you cannot carry

First buy: Extra inventory slot

Forest

  1. 1. Extra inventory slot

New island, same rule. Leeches and guns need space.

  2. 2. Fishing Rod

Retire the crab rod. Forest fish expect a real rod.

  3. 3. Pistol, then shotgun + upgrade

The Giant Piranha and its pack punish a knife-only kit.

  4. 4. Beginner Lure / French Fry

Cash engine for this shore. Use the best lure you can afford.

  5. 5. Dynamite

For clustered fish, not for the piranha’s face and not for co-op allies.

  6. 6. Big Motor

Buy it before you follow the yellow dot. The desert hop is longer.

Delay: Beginner Boss Lure until you want Sunfish / Old Pike; A second gun you will replace on Desert

First buy: Extra inventory slot

Desert

  1. 1. Extra inventory slot

Endangered fish, shark, carrot, and SMG all compete for slots.

  2. 2. SMG + upgrades

Keep this gun through Rocks. Do not sell it when the island ends.

  3. 3. Standard Lure

Main Desert pool and the endangered tourist fish.

  4. 4. Standard Boss Lure

Blue Shark → lighter → grill. Optional for story, mandatory for money.

  5. 5. Boat Radar

Hands-free map. Buy it before the red-dot crossing.

Delay: Attachments spread across guns you will sell; Casino cash — there is no table that matters here

First buy: Extra inventory slot

Rocks

  1. 1. Extra inventory slot

Tuna is a quest body. You cannot afford to drop it for a gun.

  2. 2. Sniper rifle + attachments

    Albatross is a dive-and-strafe problem.

  3. 3. SMG upgrades

You already own the gun. Finish the build.

  4. 4. Professional Lure

Regular Rocks pool. This is how the island pays for the sniper.

  5. 5. Professional Boss Lure

Tuna only. One lure, one body, one bird.

Delay: Roulette / casino — optional, and currently report-prone; A third gun you will replace with the assault rifle

First buy: Extra inventory slot

Volcano

  1. 1. Extra inventory slot

Five scientist fish plus a whale corpse is a lot of inventory.

  2. 2. Assault rifle + upgrades

Both whale fights. You can sell the SMG after this buy.

  3. 3. Sniper upgrades

Keep the Island 4 rifle. Belly-flops punish close range.

  4. 4. Scientific Lure

Regular Island 5 pool and the five-fish hand-in.

Delay: Scientific Boss Lure until you want the Goblin Shark; Betting story fish on roulette before the credits
